Several weeks ago I presented on the history and potential future of user experience patents at the User Experience Professionals Association meeting in Seattle - UXPA2016. I covered the basics of "UX Patents", including utility and design patents. Then I went through a whirlwind tour of the last 150 years of patent history, particularly as it relates to the definition and litigation of design patents and user interfaces. The final section of the presentation focused on the upcoming Supreme Court review of the Apple vs. Samsung case, and it's potential impacts on design patents, and the practice of design. The slides from my talk are now available online.
