World Usability Day - 2006

Wudlogo The second annual World Usability Day will take place at various locations around the world on Tuesday, November 14th.  Local events will include presentations, demonstrations, exhibits, etc focused on awareness of usability.  There will also be events accessible online.

Sorry about this being last minute - the about, with and for conference is currently taking place in Chicago (October 6-7):

"about, with & for is a collaborative forum hosted by the Institute of Design to discuss emerging topics, methods and issues in design research"

The conference includes a workshop by Michael Flanagan of Bressler Group on creating hybrid user/design research tools and a presentation by Stephen Wilcox, PhD, IDSA on pairing information graphics with ethnographic research.

Presentation on Technology for User Research (NYC)

Rob Tannen, PhD, IDSA, will deliver a presentation on the state of user research technology.  The presentation is Tuesday, October 17th @630PM, and is hosted by the New York City Chapter of the Usability Professional's Association (UPA).

The presentation will cover the following topics:

  • The goals and limitations of current user research technologies
  • Overview of some of the latest user research tools (e.g. remote testing, eye tracking, digital ethnography)
  • Criteria for evaluating user research technology
  • Discussion of emerging technology trends (e.g. ubiquitous computing, product integration) and their impact on user research capabilities
